MER-C threatens to sue the KPU

POST-2019 general election, the death and morbidity rate of KPPS officers (Voting Organizing Groups) continues to increase day by day.

The number of all 2019 Election officers who have died has exceeded the figure of 583 people. The figure consisted of 469 officers of KPPS, 92 supervisory officers and 22 security officers.

Concerned about the incident, the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) formed a health mitigation team for the 2019 election disaster. MER-C coach Joserizal Journalist accused the government and the General Election Commission (KPU) of ignoring the case so that victims continued to fall.

"MER-C urged the Government and KPU to care both in terms of going down to see the sick victims and handling them including hospital funding and so on until they recovered, this is to prevent more deaths," Joserizal said at MER-C Office Senen, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (05/15/2019).

MER-C has determined this event to be an extraordinary condition that must get quick and serious attention from the government and KPU. Joserizal explained that his party would sue the government and the General Election Commission to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) if it continued to allow this to happen.

"If the government and KPU remain ignorant in the case of the 2019 Election humanitarian disaster, then MER-C will file a lawsuit to the International Criminal Court and the United Nations Human Rights Commission," he said.

However, MER-C is still waiting for KPU's response regarding this matter. If the KPU is good at fulfilling their wishes, the report will not be posted to the ICC and UNHRC.

MER-C also stated that it was ready to help reveal the cause of death of KPPS officers by forming the 2019 Election Disaster Mitigation Team consisting of internal medicine specialists, medical rehabilitation, occupational medicine, neurology, forensics, and psychology who served in the Greater Jakarta area.

"Death can indeed be caused by fatigue, as long as he has a history of other diseases such as a heart attack. But it must be explored, it cannot be just a hypothesis. The proof must be COD (cause of death), "he said.

It should be noted, until the end of last week, the total number of officers in the Election 2019 who died became 583 people. Consisting of 469 KPPS officers, 92 supervisory officers and 22 security officers.

KPU Commissioner Evi Novida Ginting Manik said, in addition to KPPS who died, 4,602 KPPS fell ill while on duty. "Based on data up to 08.00 WIB this morning, there were 469 KPPS died and 4602 KPPS fell ill," Evi told reporters at the KPU office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Friday, May 10 2019.
